Students begin to master their reading skills as they apply their instruction in phonics. Our instructional materials are designed for student appeal and readability, building confidence and enthusiasm in reading. Reading transfers from basic readers to fiction and non-fiction chapter books. Twice-weekly reading groups are offered, led by volunteer parents. We complete written and oral book reports in all genres, and read for pleasure. Other language arts activities include learning to write using proper spelling, punctuation and grammar, expanding vocabulary, and memorizing Bible verses and poetry.
In math class group collaboration, group games, and individual work are used to learn:
We extend our learning of money value by earning class money and deciding how to spend it in our classroom store.
Our language arts are focused on basic writing skills – sentence structure and punctuation, learning to write and illustrate stories. Spelling tests are given weekly. We also have a literature anthology from which we learn to analyze characters, setting, foreshadowing, themes, etc
Bible time includes favorite Bible stories and reading about Christian heroes. Christian virtues and character traits are incorporated in all of our teaching. A weekly Bible verse is assigned for memory work. We also participate in a weekly all school chapel time.
Social studies and science are also part of the 3rd and 4th grade week. All of our curriculum books are available for your viewing at any time.
Art, music, computers, P.E., and Spanish are additional classes taught weekly by instructors other than the classroom teacher.
Less frequent activities might include Trimester Projects, skits, and buddy activities.
