Parent Club FAQ

What is Parent Club?
Parent Club is a group of dedicated parents and guardians of children currently attending Pleasant Hill Christian School. Core Members of Parent Club are its Officers (President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary) and Coordinators (Fundraising, Activities, and Scrip). The other members of Parent Club consist of Assistants (who assist the Coordinators with planning and conducting fundraisers and activities), and any parent or guardian that comes to Parent Club meetings.

What is the purpose of the Parent Club?
Parent Club supports PHCS, its administration, staff, students and facilities (the school). Parent Club provides Christian fellowship for parents with children attending PHCS. Parent Club also promotes and supports school spirit as well as communication between parents, the school, and the Board of Trustees. Parent Club raises funds through various fundraising activities and donations, and uses these funds to support the school.

What does Parent Club do?
Parent Club plans and conducts fundraisers and activities, and promotes school spirit. Funds raised by Parent Club are used for assemblies, parties, and special field trips for the students, and to assist with classroom expenses, special programs, and Wish List item purchases.

Who can join Parent Club?
Parent Club is open to all parents and guardians of students who are currently attending PHCS. Core Members of Parent Club are its Officers and Coordinators.

How do Officers and Coordinators get elected?
Officers and Coordinators for the ensuing school year will be nominated by active and past Core Members by April of the active year, or parents may nominate themselves for a position by volunteering (if no prior nominations have taken place). All Officers and Coordinators must be parents or guardians of children currently attending PHCS, as well as Christians regularly attending church, and they must have been part of PHCS for at least one year. Officers are required to provide a statement of faith to the PHCS Board of Trustees. Names of nominees will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval in April. Officers and Coordinators are elected annually by a majority vote of Parent Club Core Members, Assistants, and PHCS parents and guardians present at the last meeting in May.

When does Parent Club meet?
Parent Club generally meets once per month, starting in August and ending in May. The August meeting is a “closed” Core Member planning meeting in which the final Parent Club Plan is approved; all other meetings are “open” to all parents and guardians of children currently attending PHCS.

What authority do individual Parent Club members possess?
At “open” Parent Club meetings all Parent Club members (Officers, Coordinators, Assistants, and other attending parents or guardians) have the authority to voice their opinion, make suggestions, and give ideas in open discussions, and they have the ability to cast a vote. At “closed” Parent Club meetings only the Core Members meet and may cast a vote.

Why should I join?
If you want to get involved and make a difference in your child’s school then Parent Club is for you. Joining Parent Club will allow you to be more involved and connected with PHCS. You will be a part of the group that works to provide the “extras” that help to make PHCS the wonderful school it is. You will have a voice in planning fundraisers and activities, purchasing Wish List items, as well as planning allocations of funds to best support the school and ultimately make a difference for our children. Your children will see and appreciate your dedication to their school.

How are problems solved?
If parents have questions or concerns about the school, policies, staff, administration, or Board of Trustees, they are strongly urged to communicate them with the PHCS administration. Questions or concerns about Parent Club may be brought to a Parent Club meeting or directly to the Parent Club President. Any and all questions, concerns, and comments are welcome and will be discussed at the open Parent Club meeting if needed to resolve issues requiring resolution.
