In 3rd and 4th grades we enjoy learning so many new things!
Besides strengthening our reading skills by text reading, we do written and oral book reports in all genres, have timed reading tests that check comprehension, and read for pleasure. Other language arts activities include learning to write using proper spelling, punctuation and grammar, expanding vocabulary, memorizing Bible verses and poetry, as well as writing research papers using the dictionary, encyclopedia, and home internet.
In math we sing songs, play games, and use manipulatives to help master math facts and concepts. Some concepts include long division, double digit multiplication, and fractions. We are also exposed to simple algebra and geometry. We learn weights and measures in English and metric systems. We learn money value by earning class money and deciding what to spend it on in our classroom auctions.
Beyond language and math we enjoy hands on science, U.S. history, and learning about our beautiful state of California. We also enjoy our Bible, music, art, P.E., computer, and foreign language classes.
Less frequent activities might include science fair projects, country/state reports, character trait skits, and creative 3D or media presentations. Students are also encouraged to participate in the Annual Speech Meet and Spelling Bee Competition.
The children learn respect for the physically challenged through exposure to their teacher’s wheelchair and her canine companion, Rolie. In addition to Rolie, the children also enjoy interaction with other classroom animals.
