School Board FAQ

What is the responsibility of the School Board?
The Board shall establish, review and revise, as necessary, all policies governing the operation of Pleasant Hill Christian School.

The Board shall supervise the Administrator in all tasks related to the management of the School including:
  • Hiring and termination of permanent teaching staff.
  • Design of curriculum
  • Yearly budget
  • Approval of significant non-budgeted expenditures
  • Major facilities repairs, replacement and additions
  • Long-range plans for the school.

What authority do individual board members possess?
The authority of the Board is vested in the Board as a whole. Individual members have no authority in the direction of the School other than that exercised through their participation in full Board decisions.

Who makes up the board?
All Board members are volunteers and practicing Christians. The school board recommends potential members who are then subject to approval of the PHCS Board.

How often does the Board meet and who can attend?
Board meetings are held monthly the fourth Thursday on campus @ 7:00 PM. Attendance by non-members (parents, teacher and others) is welcomed for the first hour of the meeting. Non members are also invited to present any issues to the board at the first half hour of the meeting. Executive Session follows for the second hour and is closed to non-members. There is no meeting in the month of December.

How are problems handled?
Parents must understand that our school is a Christian School and that the teachings are consistent with Biblical principles. Parents must also agree to abide by the provisions and policies as set forth by the schools, including spiritual goals and values, dress codes and discipline policies. Parents also agree that it is important for them to be responsible and establish and maintain a home life environment, which will support the Biblical teachings.

Parents are expected to co-operate with the staff and administration. Parents are expected to treat all staff with respect and dignity, calmly discussing any disagreements they may have in all matters including discipline.

The Administrator is given the responsibility of the day-to-day operations of the school. This includes overseeing student safety and daily discipline issues.

The school board is given the responsibility of overseeing policy, curriculum, finances, future Planning/goals and development.

It is expected that school problems will be handled between parent and teacher in Christian love and according to Scriptural patterns.

If the parent still has a concern, the parent must bring the problem to the attention of the administrator.

If the problem has still not been resolved the parent may write a letter to the School Board c/o of the school administrator. The administrator will talk with the Board president about placing the item on the agenda. The Board President or representative will issue a written response to the concerned individual.
